Living the American Dream

The American Dream is defined as “the aspirational belief in the US that all individuals are entitled to the opportunity for success and upward social mobility through hard work.” And it’s not just about the title and the salary anymore. Job seekers in today’s world are also looking for meaningful work to achieve their American dreams.

What is Meaningful Work?

STRAIGHTFORWARDYou understand your role in the organization and where to find the resources needed to get things done.

When you are hired at PSSI, you are set up for success on day one. For our Food Safety Sanitors, we offer an extensive, bilingual, 30-day training program. Every new hire is assigned their own personal trainer/mentor to help support them through the training process.

Management level new hires are given leadership training which includes understanding organization processes, time management, communication skills, mentorship, strategic thinking and goal setting.

STRUCTUREDThere is a clear path to achieving your professional goals.

Regardless of your background, education level or experience, PSSI can help build the strategic path to advance your career. Because PSSI is a firm believer in promoting from within, if you work hard and are open to new learning opportunities, you can move up in the company.

In fact, more than 25 percent of PSSI’s workforce of more than 17,000 employees were promoted in 2020. Also, more than 80 percent of our key leadership team, including vice presidents, division managers and area managers have been promoted from within to their current role, including the company’s own President and CEO who started working on a hose as a Food Safety Sanitor.

SATISFYING – Your work helps you realize what is important to you and has a positive impact on others.

PSSI is an industry leading organization with small company values, which means what matters to you, matters to us. Whether it’s providing for your family, being valued as a team member, growing your professional experience, or helping to protect the nation’s food supply, a job with PSSI can help you feel fulfilled in your career.

And even during the most challenging times our country has faced, we’ve excelled. Through recessions and pandemics, for the last 40 years, we’ve worked to keep the food our friends and families eat safe, and we continue to provide our team members with the opportunities and resources they need to truly live the American dream.

“I was promoted within a year of working for PSSI and now the best part of my day is helping my team members achieve their career goals. As a mentor, I help them figure out where they want to be in five years and connect them with the resources they need to reach their goals. I tell them ‘there is no glass ceiling at PSSI.’ The sky is the limit.”

– Melissa Thompson, PSSI Complex Manager

“I saw a job for a Food Safety Sanitor online and I went for it. I quickly learned that this company will give back what you put in. I was promoted several times and I am grateful for the personal training I received at each level.”

– Carlos Francisco Jimenez, PSSI Area Manager

“The company will go as far as you want to go. They will push you to go farther because they want you to reach your full potential. I knew I wanted to get into a leadership position, so I worked with my manager on my goals. Now, as a Safety Supervisor, my team trusts me. They know that if I ask them to do something, it’s because I’ve been there, and I want them to be safe.”

– Javier Leon Alvarado, PSSI Safety Supervisor

“At PSSI, you are in control of your future. You don’t have to stay in the same position that you start out in. There are great growth opportunities within the company. If you’re looking for a job, this is probably not it, but if you’re looking for a career, I would definitely invest in PSSI.”

– Tracy Williams, PSSI Area Manager
