Mark your calendars because September is National Food Safety Education Month.
Created by the National Restaurant Association in 1994, it draws attention to the precautions Americans should take when handling, preparing, and storing food to reduce the risk of spreading foodborne illnesses. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that foodborne illness, known to most people as food poisoning, afects 1 in 6 Americans annually resulting in 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths.
We take our role in protecting the nation’s food security seriously, utilizing all the tools in our toolbox to help our customers develop smarter and more efficient food safety programs. For PSSI, every month is food safety month, and we remain committed to keeping our customers’ USDA, FDA, and CFIA processing facilities clean, safe, and audit-ready. It goes without saying that compliance is a large part of our commitment as we strengthen our hiring procedures and enforce our zero-tolerance policy against hiring anyone under the age of 18.
The food processing industry is demanding and challenging, yet our team members’ industry expertise allows us to navigate ever-changing rules and regulations—meeting our customers’ needs and helping them to achieve a higher level of food safety success.
While the focus of National Food Safety Education Month is on foodborne illness, we think it’s a great opportunity to recognize our skilled sanitation team who ensure our customers’ facilities are clean and safe for production even amid a global pandemic, exemplifying PSSI’s core values.
After 53 years in business, we are the premier provider of food safety solutions for millions of Americans—an achievement only made possible by the hard work of our team members.
Thank you for all that you do!
