A Compliant Partner in Food Safety is a Good Partner

Reputation matters and compliance shapes that reputation. Non-compliant organizations face losing clients, potential new business, and even see a decline in company stock value. Thus, failing to meet customer expectations for compliance can be an expensive risk.

PSSI understands that the food safety industry demands ethical conduct and the company is working to create a strong culture of compliance driven by its code of conduct, a pledge of not hiring anyone under the age of 18, and a comprehensive compliance plan.

Diego Alvarez, chief compliance officer at PSSI, explains that the company’s Code of Conduct and Ethics shapes operational principles, encourages collaborative partnerships with customers, and ensures that daily business decisions are anchored in a universal understanding of how to do things the right way. Alvarez encourages customers to contact PSSI any time there is a belief that the code has been violated.

PSSI also pledges a zero-tolerance policy toward child labor. Since 2020, the Labor Department has found nearly 13,000 child labor violations in the food industry, reports The Washington Post. The number is significant in part because children apply for jobs with fake identification. Technology to thwart these efforts is being implemented, including E-Verify, an electronic employment eligibility verification system operated by the Department of Homeland Security.

PSSI’s proactive step toward ending child labor encompasses required training for all hiring managers. Additionally, the company’s “No Minors Pledge” reinforces their personal commitment to preventing child labor.

Finally, PSSI’s comprehensive plan is a commitment to improvement. With enhanced employee training, internal audits, and community engagement initiatives, PSSI uses the plan to embed a culture of compliance across the company. Alvarez says the comprehensive plan reflects a dedication to “doing the right thing.”

Tim Mulhere, CEO of PSSI, says: “PSSI prioritizes compliance, allowing us to become a better partner to the customers we serve. We couldn’t have reached this apex without our dedicated team members whose hard work and commitment to providing the highest level of customer service never wavered.”
