Elevating Food Safety Standards: The Impact of SQF Certification

As a leader in food safety chemistry, Safe Foods Chemical Innovations (SFCI) is dedicated to ensuring a safe food supply for our customers and staying ahead of their sanitation and intervention needs. Our commitment to excellence and rigorous food safety standards is marked by our ongoing achievements in Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification.

SQF certification is a benchmarked certification program under the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).  GFSI is a collaboration of retailers and manufacturers that extends to include the food safety community with the goal of ensuring “safe food for people everywhere”.  GFSI oversees third-party food safety standards for food business operators globally by focusing on benchmarking and harmonization of food safety management systems to foster mutual acceptance of GFSI-recognized certification programs.  The SQF certification is one of 13 GFSI-recognized food safety programs, which means that the certification is recognized worldwide.

SQF Certification Across Our Facilities: What Sets Us Apart

SFCI operates in two facilities, each playing a critical role in upholding our high standards for food safety and quality. Our chemical plant in the north has consistently maintained its SQF certification under two SQF codes, namely, the Food Safety Code for Food Manufacturing and the Food Safety Code for Quality.  The Quality code covers some of the same food safety measures that the Food Manufacturing code covers but also includes quality measures to ensure consistency in product quality.

Our southern facility has also achieved and maintained SQF certification under the Food Safety Code for Food Manufacturing, which ensures that our processes are designed to effectively identify, monitor, and control potential hazards, preventing contamination and ensuring that the chemicals used in food processing meet stringent food safety requirements.

Why SQF Certification Matters for Food Safety

Achieving SQF certification is a rigorous process that involves thorough review and testing of food safety management systems. Our northern SFCI facility was the first in its industry segment to achieve SQF certification, marking a significant milestone. This certification ensures that every aspect of our operations—from sourcing to shipping—is meticulously documented, enabling us to quickly identify and address any potential issues.

Our continued compliance with SQF certification requirements at multiple levels reflects our commitment to food safety and quality. As a leader in food safety chemistry, SFCI sets the standard in protecting the food supply chain and exceeding industry expectations. By maintaining these certifications, we provide our customers with confidence in the safety and quality of our products, reinforcing our role as a trusted partner in the industry.
